Crypto-Backed Candidate Ansari Clinches Arizona Primary by a Margin of Just 39 Votes

Another enthusiastic supporter of cryptocurrency is poised to enter Congress following Yassamin Ansari clinching a victory in her Democratic primary in Arizona by a slender margin of 39 votes, confirmed by an automatic recount on Tuesday. As the former vice mayor of Phoenix, Ansari progresses to the general election in a predominantly Democratic district, enhancing her prospects of joining other Congress members advocating for favorable U.S. cryptocurrency regulations.

Following the July 30 primary, her advantage over Democratic rival Raquel Terán, endorsed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), decreased from 67 votes to 42 and ultimately settled at 39 after a judicially supervised recount.

The crypto sector’s influential political action committee (PAC), Fairshake, supported Ansari with approximately $1.4 million in advertising, which her competitor heavily criticized.

“We were proud to support a leader who is set to come to Congress and promote bipartisan collaboration and innovation to expand our economy,” stated Josh Vlasto, a spokesman for Fairshake.

Fairshake and its affiliated super PACs have now turned their attention to the November general election, pledging funds in up to 21 congressional races to date. Notably, they have announced plans to invest $12 million to oppose Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), the head of the Senate Banking Committee who has been hesitant to advance legislation regulating the cryptocurrency industry.
