Bo Hines, a former Republican candidate for the House of Representatives, has been appointed by President-elect Donald Trump as the Executive Director of the Presidential Council of Advisers for Digital Assets. In his new role, Hines will oversee a group of influential figures from the cryptocurrency industry and will collaborate closely with David Sacks, who has been appointed as the White House AI and Crypto Czar.
Trump announced Hines’ appointment via a post on Truth Social, emphasizing that the new advisory group aims to foster innovation and growth within the digital assets space. He expressed a commitment to ensuring industry leaders have the necessary resources to thrive and to establishing an environment conducive to the flourishing of the cryptocurrency sector, which he deems essential for the nation’s technological advancement.
In response to his appointment, Hines expressed gratitude to Trump, stating it would be a tremendous honor to serve in the upcoming administration. He conveyed excitement about working with Sacks to support the industry’s growth and significance.
Hines previously ran for office in North Carolina’s 13th District in the 2022 election, where he was endorsed by Trump but ultimately lost. He attempted to regain political traction in the 2024 primaries for the state’s 6th District but again fell short, finishing fourth among Republican candidates.
Despite his political background, Hines lacks a prominent history in discussions surrounding Bitcoin or cryptocurrency until now. Alongside him, Trump appointed Sriram Krishnan, a former venture capitalist, as Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence, who will also work closely with Sacks to shape policies in these technological arenas.
